This contest was the final round of the National Championships of Great Britain, for which the band had qualified by winning the regional qualifying contest in March of this year. The set piece was Michael Ball's ". . . All The Flowers of the Mountain . . ." which had been specially commissioned for the championships. The band was drawn to play number 9, and enjoyed performing to a near full hall. There were twenty bands competing in total, representing the best of brass bands from all the competing regions of Great Britain. The test piece demanded a high level of playing ability mixed with musicality, passion and style. It put an extreme pressure on the soloists, with solo passages still appearing right to the closing bars of the piece. Due to this being the test piece's inaugural performance day, the conductor, David Stowell, was also under scrutiny with the effectiveness of his interpretation for this newly written piece. The results were announced and The Travelsphere Holidays Band were delighted to receive 6th place. |
