Born
the second son of Salvationist parents Graham was taught to play the
Euphonium at the age of 8 with 3 brothers who also followed a similar
path.
Graham has since moved
on to a different instrument but, like his brothers, is still a keen
brass player. His youngest brother is the only one brave enough
to play professionally and the other 2 brothers are still playing with
Enfield Citadel Band.
Graham's childhood was
dominated by regular Sunday meetings but very little practice.
It was not until he was well in to his teens that he started to
practice his instrument in earnest. Since then he has always
tried to commit himself to a regular routine (much to the annoyance of
his wife!).
A move from Luton
Temple to Chalk Farm Band also saw him move from principal Euphonium
to Eb Bass. Chalk Farm Band gave him the opportunity to play and
tour, including trips across Europe a a tour to Australia.
14 years at Chalk Farm
were followed by several years at Enfield, before joining Travelsphere
Holidays Band four years ago.
With the significant
improvement in his musical performance he still has as much enthusiasm
for playing as he ever did. He's even managed to pick up a
Diploma in Music from the Open University. |
